The 1990s in Roman Numerals
Every year of the 1990s, converted: 1990 is MCMXC and 1999 is MCMXCIX. Birth years from this decade are among the most converted numbers there are — for tattoos, pendants, anniversary pieces and the copyright line at the end of a film.
Year by year: 1990–1999
| Year | Roman numerals | Turns in 2026 | Year | Roman numerals | Turns in 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1990 | MCMXC | 36 | 1991 | MCMXCI | 35 |
| 1992 | MCMXCII | 34 | 1993 | MCMXCIII | 33 |
| 1994 | MCMXCIV | 32 | 1995 | MCMXCV | 31 |
| 1996 | MCMXCVI | 30 | 1997 | MCMXCVII | 29 |
| 1998 | MCMXCVIII | 28 | 1999 | MCMXCIX | 27 |
“Turns in 2026” is the age someone born in that year reaches on their birthday in 2026 — the number that matters for milestone pieces: a 40th in 2026 means a 1986 birth year, MCMLXXXVI.
Reading a 1990s year
Every year in this decade opens with MCM — M for 1000, CM for 900, the 1900s. What changes from year to year is the tail after MCM: the tens and units follow exactly the pattern of the 1–100 chart, so 1994 ends in IV and 1999 in IX. If the year is part of a full date — a birth date on a pendant, a wedding date inside a ring — use the date converter so the day and month are converted with it, in the right order.
